What this does, is it allows you to bundle all of your monthly loan payments into just one payment.

Consolidation loans taken out before that date had a variable interest rate, determined by the individual FDLP loan origination center (e.g., in the case of Harvard University the university) or FFELP lender (e.g., a third party bank).

A federal consolidation is completed through a federal servicer where as a private consolidation can be completed through a platform like Credible.

The interest rate on a federal consolidation is calculated by a weighted average of the interest rates on the loans being consolidated.
