First, it’s worth noting that the only expectations that paper-dropdown-menu has on its dropdown content element (which could be anything, not necessarily a paper-listbox) is that the dropdown content element raise events. So any fix here has to leverage those events if we want to avoid coming up with a new means for the dropdown menu and its content to communicate.

The core surprise seems to be that when the items of an , that would resolve this issue cleanly, and might resolve similar issues in others uses of those behaviors.

I have a Rad Date Time Picker control in a view that is bound to a datetime property in the associated viewmodel using the Selected Value of the Rad Date Time Picker.

When the user selects a date and / or time, the datetime property in the viewmodel is set accordingly.

My solution was to remove these hidden Char values.

These values look like an innocent space, but actually they are not!

However, if the user subsequently clears the input and the default 'Enter date' text is displayed in the control, the datetime property in the viewmodel is not set to null / mindatetime.

I have managed to handle this by also binding a property in the viewmodel to the Date Time Text property of the control and checking for blank. Please can we have it so that Rad Date Time Picker Selected Value becomes null when user clears input from the control.
